HPV Vaccine Drama

Apparently people think that the HPV Vaccine will cause children to have more sex.

This is completely disregarding the fact that HPV is a cell-to-cell transfer virus, which means that it's possible to transmit it without having sex, as it is possible to transfer it while having sex with condoms.

I can't link to the original article, but it's an October 7th NYTimes article if you want to lexis it.

Basically, there's a vaccine that protects against the 4 or 6 HPV (human papilominovirus) strains that cause the most cases of cervical cancer. HPV in all its strains is one of the most pervasive sexually transmitted infections (STIs) because it has basically no symptoms and is extremely easy to transmit (skin to skin - which makes it way easier to transmit than herpes and HIV) and it's estimated that over half of sexually active adults in this country have or have had some strain of HPV.

The argument against the vaccine is innane for many reasons. People innoculate against Hepatitis C, which is basically an STI, because there's a possibility it can be transmitted a different way.

This particular vaccine has no bearing on people's morality or sexual activity. Parents who vaccinate their kids could theoretically have the record suppressed, and the kid could find out at 18 when s/he really should have a clue as to whether or not to be sexually active.

I don't see a downside either. Less cancer?

So out of 30 types of HPV this prevents 4-6? And it prevents the cancerous ones. There are still 24 STD viruses in thie family to discourage people from having premarital sex... I'm not seeing the problem here...
