"War on Christmas"?
So I wanted everyone's opinion on this supposed "War on Christmas" Ok granted this is Bill O'Rielly ("No Spin" my ass) and some crackpot that wrote the book The War on Christmas: How the Liberal Plot to Ban the Sacred Christian Holiday Is Worse Than You Thought. But people besides Faux News are actually getting behind this. I mean what is wrong with "Happy Holidays"? Bill points out that the advertising space they could put "Merry Christmas", "Happy Chanukah", I dunno something about Kwanza, Tet, Ramanadan, I'm probably forgetting one here... wait I think I just made my point kinda dilutes the message and someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't "Happy Holidays" cover Thanksgiving, <insert your favorite religous holiday here>, and New Years?
2 Comments:
1) We live in a predominantly Christian country.
2) There is a drive for plurality that some people are resisting.
3) Throwing the "Happy Hannukah" bone to the non-Christians along with "Merry Christmas" is a total cop-out.
4) Whatever happened to "Season's Greetings"?
5) There are more lapsed-Christians who celebrate Christmas for Hallmark and Commercialism rather than for the baby jesus. The fundies need to take it up with them, not with the people who have completely other faiths and are not threatening jesus's role in Christmas at all.
Finally, http://holiday.enlighten.com/
1) We live in a country where people are supposed to be able to worship as they please, WTF happened to that?
2) Ok people are stupid and afraid of change this I know
3) Totally agree, but then again so is "Happy Holidays" and not having any respect or understanding for another persons faith/traditions
4) I dunno personally I like "Happy Holidays" better... "Seasons Greatings" seems so ditached and impersonal
5) I completely agree, but why attack people that atleast get guilted into going to church one day a year when you can bash those that are different than you :)
And very cute by the way.
And slightly more on topic. This preacher wrote a disclaimer for the use of "Merry Christmas":
